Knowmad Adventures at the Outdoor Adventure Expo

how to travel to peru

We invite you to the this fall’s Outdoor Adventure Expo hosted by Midwest Mountaineering and the U of M, November 22 through 24. Join all of your outdoor-loving, gear-fanatic friends for great deals and loads of inspiration!

Outdoor AdventuresMidwest Mountaineering started in 1970 as a small venture run out of the founder, Rod Johnson’s, kitchen, primarily for climbing enthusiasts. In 1971 he moved into his first storefront where he sold backpacking, camping, and climbing equipment, much like the store does today. In 1985 Rod, in hopes of sharing his new-found passion for canoeing, created the “The Great Minnesota Canoe Event” at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds. Not long after, the “Winterfest Expo” was born; known today as the Bi-Annual Outdoor Adventure Expo. Midwest Mountaineering has been a strong force in the outdoor enthusiast industry and every year we look forward to being a part of this tradition.

The Outdoor Adventure Expo now brings together over 100 exhibitors and 120 presenters. There are plenty of things to keep you busy including a “Beer and Gear Social Night and Raffle,” great deals on gear (everything is on sale), a kids adventure area, and the “Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour.”

Be sure to stop by the Knowmad booth during the day and don’t miss our presentations Machu Picchu and Beyond: Practical Advice for Making the Most of Your Peru Travels and Patgonia Unbridled. The Machu Picchu and Beyond presentation will be on Saturday, November 23rd at 11:45am – 12:45pm in Hanson Hall Room 102. Jordan Harvey, Knowmad’s co-Founder will share inspired images while offering practical itinerary planning and advice for hiking the Inca Trail, less physical and more luxurious trips, as well as info on Amazon Jungle lodges and Lake Titicaca. Having traveled, lived, and guided throughout South America, Jordan will offer insider information about Peru travel planning. Home to ancient civilizations, vast archeological marvels, vibrant indigenous cultures, and natural wonders spanning from Amazon Rainforest to towering Andean peaks, Peru inspires awe at every turn. Throw in delectable food and remarkably friendly people, and it’s no wonder why Peru is a traveler favorite. Follow the link to brush up on some of our favorite itineraries and learn more about travel in Peru before heading to our presentation.

The Patagonia Unbridled presentation will be on Sunday, November 24th from 2:15pm to 3:15pm in Hanson Hall Room 104. This presentation will delve into both active Patagonia trips and luxury Patagonia vacations, offering advice and sharing images from this striking and remote corner of the world. This remote region at the end of the Andes is home to Torres del Paine National Park, the Perito Moreno Glacier, Cape Horn and the Tierra del Fuego, remote Chiloe Island and its seafaring indigenous peoples, the unblemished Cochamo Valley and more. It is as vast and sparsely populated as it is dramatic.

The expo runs on Friday from 2:00 to 9:30pm, Saturday from 9:00 to 6:30pm, and Sunday from 10:00 to 5:00pm, and admission is absolutely FREE! You can find out more general information about the expo on the Outdoor Adventure Expo website.

Can’t wait to see you there!
