Travel + Leisure A-List Award: Bright Future Award
We’re extremely proud to announce that Knowmad and Co-Founder Jordan Harvey have earned the Travel + Leisure A-list honor for being the top Patagonia, Chile, and Argentina specialist. Our 7th year running taking home the hardware, you may think as time goes on our excitement would begin to fade but rather it builds, striking a different chord each year. This year it feels especially significant. It’s a simple, yet profound symbol of Knowmad’s bright future.
We are proud to be one of the only companies in the world to receive both the Condé Nast Top Specialists and Travel + Leisure A-List awards, and also have two award-winning Specialists (Renee Davies is Condé Nast’s top Ecuador & Galapagos Specialist).
Travel + Leisure A-List Award Winner!
We’re beyond excited to announce Jordan’s recognition on the 2019 Travel + Leisure A-List – a collection of the world’s top travel advisors – for the 7th year in a row! As with every big accomplishment, it takes a village: for Jordan (and Knowmad) it’s the combination of like-minded travelers and a rockstar team of Trip and Operations Specialists that made this award possible. Thank you all!
Condé Nast Traveler Top Travel Specialists We Trust Award
Starting a business takes courage and leadership, tireless dedication and a steady vision even when faced with challenges, and a team devoted to the same values and ideals. Receiving the Condé Nast Traveler Top Travel Specialist We Trust award gives us the opportunity and reminder to slow down and congratulate each other on all of the goals – big and small – that we accomplish each day. We are so grateful Jordan has been recognized on this list for the 5th year in a row, thank you!
Condé Nast Traveler Experience Makers Award for the 4th Year in a Row!
What makes someone worthy of the Condé Nast Traveler Experience Makers award? This person is not just an expert in their field, but a person that views crafting the perfect trip as an art form. A person who is considerate, taking the time to listen their travelers’ interests, style, and needs; a person who is knowledgable, always on the pulse of new activities, cultural opportunities, and remote lodges; and a person who is passionate, someone who understands that the each trip is a unique reflection of the traveler that ultimately gets to embark on the journey. We’re proud to say that Jordan Harvey, Knowmad’s Co-Founder, is this person.
Travel + Leisure A-List Recognizes Jordan As a Top Trip Advisor for the 7th Year in a Row!
It’s a series of moments that have lead Jordan to his 7th Travel + Leisure A-List win. It all started with a big dream in a small cabin nestled in the Patagonian countryside. Here, Tara and Jordan spent many hours, days, and weeks developing their travel company. And today we take a moment to reflect on some of the triumphs and challenges that ultimately make Knowmad, Knowmad.
Condé Nast Traveler Highlights Knowmad’s Off-The-Beaten-Path Specialty with Choquequirao Trek Mention
We’re so thrilled that Knowmad was mentioned as the company to call for your Choquequirao trekking plans by Condé Nasts’s Traveler magazine! Traveler explains how the multi-day trek to the the lesser-travelled but equally magnificent Choquequirao indeed stands up to comparisons to Machu Picchu. Our founders, Tara and Jordan Harvey, have journeyed to the archaeological site themselves – affectionately called “Choque” – and came out of it more impassioned than ever, affirming that it makes trekkers feel about as much like Indiana Jones as possible.

Forbes Travel + Knowmad Adventures: Adrenaline + Zen – Five Trips of a Lifetime
“Sitting on a beach with a tropical cocktail is all well and good, but a lot of us get bored with that after about ten minutes. We’d rather do something that makes us feel alive. Testing our limits is (sometimes scary) fun, and as travel has come to be less about architecture and more about experiences, a great trip is one that sparks a personal transformation.

24 Hours in Patagonia with Knowmad Adventures + Artful Living Magazine
Patagonia holds a special place in the hearts of Jordan and I. We first traveled to Torres del Paine together while we were engaged, hiking and camping for about a week. Freshly married we returned shortly thereafter to live in Chile’s Northern Patagonia and start the journey that is Knowmad Adventures, a boutique South American travel company with big dreams. We never hesitate to return to the region and every experience, be it in a new luxury adventure lodge like Awasi or roughing it with packs on our back, is unforgettable.
I was thrilled when Artful Living Magazine
asked me to give their readers a twenty-four hour window into what adventuring in Patagonia is like. Read on for a look into Awasi Patagonia Lodge and more…

Pregnancy & Newborn Magazine: The Sisterhood of Motherhood + Knowmad Adventures
I remember sitting in the waiting room for one of the many doctor appointments you go to when you’re pregnant and flipping through Pregnancy & Newborn Magazine. It must have been during one of the early visits that the “5 Fascinating Moms” feature caught my eye. As an expectant mother I was nervous, naturally. How was I going to do this? Was I going to be nurturing enough? Patient enough? The stories of those five women filled me with wonder. How were they pulling it off? Not only were they tackling the daily challenges of meeting every need of a little human being, but they were doing it with style and gusto! Pursuing their own dreams, juggling careers and me-time. It seemed impossible.

“If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be? That’s what we asked our followers on Facebook and Twitter and the frequent travelers we interviewed on the streets of New York. Their answers spanned the globe, from an overwater bungalow in Bora-Bora to a South African safari to the beaches of Brazil. Here, our advice on how to make these dream getaways a reality—plus, the trips that are on T+L editors’ bucket lists.”
– Travel + Leisure Magazine, 50 Dream Trips Edition | Edited by Jacqueline Gifford and Brooke Porter Katz
One of those traveler’s questioned was Rosemari Herrero, a 30 year old investment banker. She answered “I would love to see penguins, go horseback riding, and meet gauchos in Patagonia. The mountains there are so beautiful.” Travel & Leisure Magazine naturally chose Knowmad Adventures to put together the logistics for this Patagonia Dream Trip, as they recently named co-founder Jordan Harvey for the second year in a row as a T+L A-List winner, expert in Chile and Argentina. This adventure includes explorations of both Argentina and Chile with activities like ice-climbing on the massive Perito Moreno Glacier or horseback riding in the infamous Torres del Paine National Park. We also added stops in both countries’ intriguing capital cities, tastings at off-the-beaten path boutique vineyards and more. Best Chile & Argentina Travel Agent & Trip Operator: Travel & Leisure Awards Jordan Harvey
Ladies & gents, damas y caballeros, he’s done it again! Jordan Harvey’s travel planning skills have been praised before, but this week they’ve gotten international recognition as he was named the best travel specialist for Argentina & Chile vacations in Travel + Leisure Magazine. Check newsstands for the October issue and flip to page 94 or read about the Travel + Leisure A-List online.
“I almost fainted right there in the Dallas/Ft. Worth customs after landing from Chile,” Jordan says of finding out. “We work really hard and have unparalleled levels of knowledge and operating capabilities in our regions, but we focus much more on the experience and staying on the cutting edge in our destinations than we do on getting press and winning contests, so this came as a huge shock. Not to mention we’re probably the newest and smallest company on the list,” he added. (more…)
Tierra Patagonia in Travel + Leisure
Travel and Leisure recently named Tierra Patagonia, a lodge located on the edge of Chile’s Torres Del Paine National Park, Best Resort in the T + L 2013 Design Awards. Being a design junkie myself, I wholeheartedly agree with T + L’s perspective that good design makes better travel (and better everything really). Knowmad, upon its creation, has been sending happy travelers to Tierra Patagonia’s sister lodge in the northern Chilean Desert, Tierra Atacama, and was thrilled to hear of plans to build a lodge that would no doubt just as seamlessly live and blend into its natural surroundings.
We were so excited, in fact, that we’ve decided to hop a flight down to Chile in a couple weeks to check it out. Stay tuned for the next issue of the Knowmad Travel Journal for our thoughts on this and other lodges in both Patagonia and the Atacama Desert.
Un Beso, Tara

Knowmad News: Published in Frommer’s Again!
It was rewarding last year when Frommer’s Budget Travel made our Northern Patagonia Odyssey itinerary their Featured Real Deal Trip as it’s an innovative and authentic itinerary that makes the Patagonia more accessible. Far more rewarding however, the magazine recently interviewed the Seviers who found us by way of the Frommer’s accolade, took the trip, and were blown away by how well it facilitated them being a part of the diverse cultures of the region.
GOING OFF THE GRID
(as published in Frommer’s Budget Travel, May/June 2012)
“My wife, Sarah, and I live in Manhattan. As lifelong big-city dwellers, a trip to Chilean Patagonia was a 180-degree change for us. We wanted to be immersed, not pampered. Only twice did we eat in restaurants – instead, we ate with our hosts in local homes. We stayed with a couple in Cochamo Valley – at one point we were eating fresh salmon the husband had caught the day before from the river that runs through their property. What I remember most: the wood stoves. There’s one in everybody’s kitchen, going 24 hours a day. The coffee’s always on, and you can smell the wood smoke all throughout the house. I’m desperate to find a way to import those stoves to New York—I just don’t know too many landlords who would allow it.”
