Itinerary Overview

In addition to natural beauty that leaves visitors speechless, the Northern Patagonia is home to incredible fly fishing waters. Our partners at El Saltamontes and The Patagonian BaseCamp are industry leaders offering unmatched fishing and lodging experiences.

Fly Fishing in South Amerca

PATAGONIA BASECAMP You’re invited to Patagonia’s most diverse fly fishing trip at Marcel and Carolina’s Patagonian BaseCamp on the Rio Palena. Marcel traveled the world for years before building his dream lodge in a hidden corner of Patagonia, an area as wild as it is beautiful. This remoteness means you’ll most likely see no other fishermen during your stay, but you will see lots of brown and rainbow trout. Patagonia Basecamp’s location affords an incredible diversity of waters and fishing experiences. In addition to using inflatable catarafts and outboard boats, Marcel can organize two and three day overnight float trips into wilderness rivers, spending nights at small riverside cabins or camping under the Southern Cross. In addition, access high mountain lakes teeming with heavy-shouldered trout by an oxcart-pulled carriage or by horseback. These fish are wild and untouched.

The lodge is designed for maximum comfort and minimum environmental impact. With only seven rooms, it is a cozy affair inviting you to unwind by the 360-degree fire-place after a hearty dinner is served by professional chef Carolina.

EL SALTAMONTES Jose and Erica Gorrono are your hosts at their cozy lodge nestled along the banks of the Nireguao River. Fewer than 100 anglers fish the 5,000-acre ranch every year. Exclusively brown trout angling, most fishing at El Saltamontes is done on the Nireguao River and its oxbow lagoons, with some of the best waters a stone’s throw from the lodge. Browns actively feed on grasshoppers (saltamontes means grasshoppers in Spanish) and other terrestrials which abound in the high grasses bordering the river. The lodge is intimate and luxurious, welcoming a maximum of ten fishermen and four non-anglers each week. Made entirely of local timber and stones, the attention to detail makes this the quintessential lodge experience. The gourmet meals of a talented chef and an impressive wine cellar are the only way to get you to come back from the river when the fishing is this good!

Is It For Me?

Fishing the Patagonia at our partner lodges is ideal for anglers looking for world-class fishing in a spectacular setting found nowhere else in the world. Non-anglers will be delighted as well with activities such as hiking, wildlife viewing, horseback riding and more…
